What's a good amount for a honeymoon fund?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

There is no fixed amount that works for everyone. A good honeymoon fund is whatever lets you enjoy a break without financial strain. Think about your normal holiday budget, your savings, and what kind of trip you realistically want. Then set a target you feel comfortable with.

Start by deciding what kind of honeymoon you want, not the other way round. A long overseas trip costs more than a long weekend in the UK, but both can be wonderful. Look at your own finances first. What can you set aside each month without dipping into everyday money? That total, plus anything guests choose to give, becomes your fund.

If you are asking because you are setting up a gift list, remember that guests give what they can afford. Some will give generously, others will give a little or nothing at all. That is normal. A good fund is one that covers your planned trip, or at least a meaningful part of it, so you are not left short. You can always add your own savings to top it up.

Consider the season and destination too. School holidays and popular resorts cost more. Travelling in shoulder season or choosing a less obvious location can stretch your money further. Keep your fund flexible. If you receive more than you expected, you can upgrade flights or add extra nights. If you receive less, you can still have a lovely break closer to home.

There is no magic number. The right amount is simply what works for your budget and your plans.
