Short answer
Same-sex couples can keep or adapt any tradition they like, from wearing suits or dresses to choosing their own roles. The most important thing is that the day feels true to both of you.
There is no rulebook for same-sex weddings in the UK, so you are free to mix, match and invent traditions as you go. Many couples keep the parts they love and change the parts that feel awkward or outdated.
You might keep the classic elements and simply swap the labels. Two grooms can both wear suits, or one might choose a tuxedo and the other a three-piece suit. Two brides can each wear a gown, or one could wear a dress and the other a jumpsuit or a suit. Walking down the aisle together, or being escorted by parents, are both lovely options. The order of vows, the exchange of rings and the signing of the legal documents stay much the same.
Some couples drop traditions that assume a bride and groom, such as the father giving the bride away, the throwing of the bouquet or the garter. Others reinvent them so everyone can take part. You could ask both parents to walk you down the aisle, or invite all your friends to join the dance floor for a group celebration instead of a singled-out ritual.
Religious ceremonies may have their own rules, so check with your place of worship about what is allowed. Civil and humanist ceremonies give you the most freedom to write your own order of service.
