Short answer
Ask what is included, what is banned, and what needs approval. Check candles, confetti, hanging items, furniture, and whether your own stylist can set up. Confirm timing for access and who handles take-down.
Start by asking what the venue includes in its standard styling package. Many venues supply tables, chairs, linens and basic lighting, while others expect you to bring everything. Ask for a written list so you know exactly what you are paying for and what you need to source yourself.
Then ask about restrictions. Some venues ban confetti, sparklers, candles or real flowers on certain surfaces. Others allow them only with extra cleaning fees or with prior approval. Check whether you can hang decorations from walls, ceilings or beams, and whether freestanding items like arches or backdrops are allowed. If you plan to use a stylist or decorator, ask whether they must be approved by the venue and whether they need insurance.
Ask about timing. Find out when you and your suppliers can access the room on the day, and whether you can set up the night before. Also ask when everything must be cleared by, and whether the venue offers take-down help or charges for it. Finally, ask about outdoor areas if you are considering a ceremony or photos outside, and whether decorations are allowed there too.
If you are having a religious or civil ceremony, check whether the venue or the officiant has any rules about decorations near the altar or signing table. Rules can vary, so it is worth asking directly.
