How to word gift registry on wedding website?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For guests

Short answer

Word your gift list kindly and simply. Say something like: "Your presence is the greatest gift, but if you would like to help us start our married life, we have a small gift list here." Then link to it. Never make it sound required.

Gift lists can feel awkward, but a gentle line solves that. Start with gratitude. For example: "We are so happy to have you with us on our wedding day. Your presence means the world. If you would like to give a gift, we have a small list of things we would love."

Then explain how it works. You might say: "We have chosen a few items online, and you can also contribute towards bigger things like our first holiday or home improvements." Keep it short. Do not list prices or amounts. If you prefer no gifts, say: "Please no gifts. Your presence is enough."

If you have a charity you care about, you can say: "Instead of gifts, we would be honoured if you donated to [charity name]." That is kind and clear.

Remember that some guests will still bring a card or a small gift. That is fine. Never chase anyone for a gift. And if you have a gift list, make sure the link works and is easy to find. One polite paragraph is enough. Do not repeat it on every page.
