Is a wedding website necessary?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For parents

Short answer

No, a wedding website is not necessary. It is a helpful tool, but you can have a perfectly organised wedding without one. Paper invitations, phone calls and group messages work just as well, especially for smaller or more traditional weddings.

A wedding website is a convenience, not a requirement. There is no legal or practical rule that says you must have one. Many couples plan wonderful weddings using only printed invitations, reply cards and a few phone calls. If your guest list is under thirty and everyone knows each other, a website may add little value.

However, a website becomes more useful as your wedding grows. With over fifty guests, or with many travelling from different places, it saves you from repeating the same information dozens of times. It also helps with events like a hen do or stag do, where guests need separate details.

The key is to match the tool to your needs. If you enjoy the process and want a central hub, build one. If you find it stressful or unnecessary, skip it. Your guests will not judge you either way. What matters is that they know where to be and when.

If you do decide against a website, make sure your invitation includes all essential details, and have a reliable way for guests to ask questions. That is enough.
