Are winter weddings cheaper in the UK?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For parents

Short answer

Winter weddings are often cheaper in the UK because venues and suppliers usually charge less outside the peak spring and summer season. You may find lower prices for venues, catering and accommodation, but this varies by area, so it is worth asking directly.

Many venues have seasonal pricing, with lower rates from November to February, especially on weekdays or Fridays. This can mean more choice of dates, easier negotiation on packages, and availability of your preferred photographer, caterer or florist. However, winter is not always cheap: December can be busy with Christmas parties, and some venues keep festive prices high. January and February are usually quieter, so you may have more bargaining power. You can also save on flowers by choosing seasonal winter blooms or greenery, and on decor because candles and foliage do much of the work. Heating and lighting costs may be higher for the venue, but this is usually included in the hire fee. Always ask what is included, and compare quotes from several venues. The legal rules for giving notice and the ceremony are the same all year, so winter does not change the paperwork, only the atmosphere and the price. Check with venues directly for their low-season rates.
