What are some cheap and easy backdrop ideas?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For the bridal party

Short answer

Cheap and easy backdrops include a sheet of fabric, paper flowers, bunting, balloons, or a curtain hung from a rail. Use items you already own, like scarves or a quilt.

You do not need to spend much. A single roll of fabric from a market stall can be clipped to a rail or branch. Paper flowers are simple to make from tissue paper or old book pages. Bunting is easy to sew or buy ready-made, and it adds colour without much effort.

Balloons in one or two colours can be clustered and taped to a wall or frame. A plain sheet can be dyed or painted with a simple pattern. A curtain, even a shower curtain, can be hung on a tension rod for a quick backdrop.

Use what you have. A patchwork of scarves, a vintage quilt, or a collection of frames with photos can make a personal backdrop. For a rustic look, hang hessian or lace over a wooden pallet.

Keep it simple. A backdrop does not need to be grand. A clean, flat surface with a few flowers or a sign can be just as effective. Make sure it is secure and does not block the aisle or the view.
