Short answer
These days, the couple usually pays for most of the wedding, with parents contributing if they can and want to. There is no fixed list. You decide together what each side will cover, based on your budget and what feels comfortable.
Modern UK weddings are far more flexible than the old traditions. Many couples fund the whole event themselves, especially if they are older or have been living together. Others receive help from parents, grandparents or other relatives, either as a lump sum or by covering specific items.
A common modern split is for the couple to pay for the venue, catering, photography and their own outfits, while parents might cover the drinks, flowers, cake or transport. Some families divide the guest list and each side pays for their own guests' meals. Others simply pool money into one wedding fund.
The important thing is to agree a clear plan. Start by working out your total budget, then decide what you can afford yourselves. Ask each family if they would like to contribute, and if so, whether they prefer to give a set amount or pay for particular things. Be honest about what things cost, and be ready to adjust your plans if contributions are smaller than hoped.
Remember that no one is obliged to pay. If a parent cannot help, that is fine. Focus on the marriage, not the money.
