How far in advance should you create a wedding website?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12

Short answer

Create your wedding website as soon as you have set the date and venue, usually six to twelve months before the wedding. This gives guests time to plan travel and accommodation, and lets you update details as they are confirmed.

The best time to build your wedding website is right after you have confirmed the date and venue, because those are the two details guests need first. For most couples that is six to twelve months before the wedding. If you are planning a shorter engagement, even three months is fine, as long as you give guests enough notice for travel and time off work.

Start with the basics: date, venue, and a short welcome message. You can add more sections later, such as accommodation, travel, and dress code, as you confirm them. Send the website link with your save the dates, and again with the invitations. This way guests can check it early and come back for updates.

If you are giving notice or booking a registrar, remember that legal details can vary, so check GOV.UK or your register office for the current rules. Once the website is live, review it a few weeks before the wedding to make sure all timings and addresses are correct. You can also add final details like the order of the day and any last minute changes. A website built early and updated regularly saves you from answering the same questions again and again.
