How to create a simple invitation card?

Answered by the UK Wedding Websites editorial team · Updated 2026-10-12 · For parents

Short answer

Choose a template, add your details, pick a font and colours, then download or share. Keep the wording short: names, date, time, venue and RSVP. You can add a photo and a map link, but avoid clutter.

Start by deciding what your guests need to know. The essentials are who is getting married, when, where, and how to reply. You can add a dress code, a gift list note, or a link to your wedding website, but keep it brief.

Use a free design tool with a wedding invitation template. Replace the placeholder text with your own details. Pick a font that is easy to read, and colours that match your theme. If you want a photo, choose a clear one of you both, or a scenic shot. Keep the layout simple: one main block of text, one image, and one clear call to action for RSVP.

Once you are happy, download as a high-resolution image or PDF. If you are sending by email, attach the file or use a link. If you are printing, check the file is at least 300 dpi. For a digital-only invite, you can also create a short video or an animated card, but a static image is often easier and faster.

Remember that a simple card is not less beautiful. White space helps guests focus on the important details. And if you are unsure about wording, ask a friend to read it aloud to catch mistakes.
